Lotus 22 (1962 to 1962)

The Lotus 22 was a racing car built in 1962, developed from its predecessor (the 1962 Lotus 20) and featuring notable upgrades like disc brakes all around, a dry sump engine, and smoother bodywork. A total of 77 cars were built, primarily for use in the Formula Junior series, which meant most were fitted with a 1.1L Cosworth Mk IV or Mk XI engines with about 100 hp, although 7 cars were fitted with a new 1.5 L Lotus twin-cam engine, developed for the Lotus Elan. The 22 was a very successful race car, taking the victory in 75% of the races for the 1962 European FIA Formula Junior championship. It also served as the platform for the iconic Lotus 23, and many 22's were used in higher-category racing like Formula 1.
