The 70 was introduced by Lotus in 1969. It was designed to compete in the Formula 5000 category, which was gaining popularity at the time. However, not many examples were produced as Lotus mainly focused on its Formula 1 program and other projects. As was common in racing cars of the time, this one used a 5-speed manual Hewland gearbox and power was sent to the rear wheels. Its engine was a 5.0L Chevrolet V8. The Lotus 70 was produced until 1970.
