McLaren Automotive, more commonly known as McLaren, is a British automotive manufacturer that first appeared in 1963. Originally established as Bruce McLaren Motor Racing, the company specialized in creating high performance race cars for a variety of disciplines including Formula One and Can-Am. Established by the legendary race driver and engineer Bruce McLaren, the company went on to gain a reputation as one of the world's best race car manufacturers. This motoring expertise lead McLaren to develop one of the world's most highly regarded supercars, the McLaren F1. Although widely admired, the F1 only saw a short production run with 106 examples built. Although McLaren collaborated with Mercedes-Benz to create the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren in 2005, it wasn't until 2011 that the company launched another road model, the MP4-12C. This new model signaled a new era at McLaren which saw the company focus on building highly capable supercars to rival the offerings from brands such as Ferrari. Since then, the company has released such notable models as the 675LT, P1, and the Senna.
