The 190D was only built from the factory in a four door sedan body style, but coachbuilt station wagons by Binz & Co. was sold through Mercedes dealers. Over the course of production, two evolutions of the 190D were were built, the 190D (1958-1959) and the 190Db (1959-1961). The differences between the two evolutions is minor, with mostly cosmetic changes, including a wider grill, larger Mercedes stars on the hubcaps, and larger rear taillights. The 190D was powered by Mercedes' OM621 engine, which was a 1.9L inline four that generated 50hp. This engine was paired to a four speed column-shift manual transmission that sent drive to the rear wheels. Production of the W121 Mercedes-Benz 190D ended in 1961, with a total of 81,938 examples built.
