Mercedes-Benz 290GD T/G290 Turbodiesel - W461 (1998 to 2001)

The Mercedes-Benz 290 GD T was a diesel powered variant of the W461 G-Class that was introduced for the 1998 model year. Available in both short and long wheelbase versions, the 290GD T was powered by Mercedes' OM 602 DE 29 LA engine. This 2.9L turbocharged inline five diesel engine generated 120hp and 207 lb⋅ft of torque. Drive was sent from the engine to all four wheels via a 4 speed automatic transmission. In late 1993, Mercedes changed their naming system, moving the letter designation to the front of the displacement designation, thus changing the name of the 290GD T to the G290 Turbodiesel.
