Mercedes-Benz introduced their first sports car in 1926 with the Type S. The Type S would form the basis for the W06 platformed series of performance cars which would include the Type S, Type SS, Type SSK, and Type SSKL. These famous performance cars would set a benchmark of performance and speed which established Mercedes-Benz as a serious competitor in motorsport as well as luxury. These cars were powered by a supercharged inline 6, offered in 6.8L or 7.1L displacement. Less than 300 examples of all W06 cars were built before the end of production in 1932.
