The history of Mercedes-Benz starts at the turn of the 20th century. The company&#39;s lineage begins with <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/benz-cie/">Benz &amp; Cie</a> and the Daimler Motor Corporation (DMG). Daimler introduced the Mercedes 35hp, an automobile named after the daughter of DMG dealer and associate Emil Jellinek, setting the precedent for the use of the name. In 1926, DMG and Benz merged to create Mercedes-Benz, with their first car released in the same year. In the years since its creation, Mercedes-Benz has become one of the world&#39;s premier automotive manufacturers, known for their high level of engineering as well as their luxury. The company also has a prestigious racing history, have participated in all sorts of motorsport competitions, and achieved notable victories in Formula 1 and Le Mans. Just a few of the company&#39;s&nbsp;storied historical models include the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/mercedes-benz/sl/w198/300-sl-gullwing/">300 SL Gullwing</a>, the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/mercedes-benz/540k/">540K</a>, the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/mercedes-benz/600/">600</a>, and the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/mercedes-benz/s/w112/">300 SE</a>. In 1996, Mercedes-Benz introduced their new roadster, the SLK. This new compact roadster featured a folding hardtop roof throughout the course of its production. The SLK was produced in three distinct generations, the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/mercedes-benz/slk/r170/">R170&nbsp;(1997-2004)</a>, the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/mercedes-benz/slk/r171/">R171&nbsp;(2005-2010)</a>, and the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/mercedes-benz/slk/r172/">R172&nbsp;(2011-2015)</a>. Available with a range of inline-4, V6, and V8 engines during&nbsp;the course of its life, the SLK could range from a relaxed daily driver to a roaring performance car. The last generation of the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/mercedes-benz/slk/">Mercedes-Benz SLK</a>, the R172 was introduced in 2011. Like its predecessor, the R172 was available with an inline-4, a V6, or a V8 for the AMG variant. R172 variants included the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/mercedes-benz/slk/r172/slk-250/">SLK250</a>, <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/mercedes-benz/slk/r172/slk-350/">SLK350</a>, and the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/mercedes-benz/slk/r172/slk-55-amg/">SLK55 AMG</a>. In 2015, Mercedes changed the name of the R172 from SLK-Class to SLC-Class, in order to fall in with their new naming style. Introduced in 2012, the SLK 55 AMG featured a range of improvements such as larger brakes and upgraded suspension in order to give the car better dynamic abilities. This series of cars was equipped with Mercedes&#39; M152 DE55 engine, which was a 5.5L naturally aspirated V8 that sent 415hp to the rear wheels via a 7 speed automatic transmission. Production of the R172 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG ended in 2015, when Mercedes decided to rename the SLK into the SLC-Class.
