Mercury Capri - 1st Gen (1970 to 1978)

The first generation of Mercury Capri was introduced for the 1970 model year. The first generation Capri was a captive import of the European Ford Capri, and was sold and marketed as the 'Capri,' with no designated make identification. From 1970 to 1974, the Capri was offered as a coupe, yet from 1976 (1975 model year was skipped) the Capri was offered as a hatchback and was known as the Capri II. The first generation Capri was fitted with a range of inline four and V6 engines, and was built until 1978, when it was replaced by the Second Generation Mercury Capri.
