The Morgan Motor Company, better known as Morgan, is a British automotive manufacturer founded in 1910. Morgan began life building front engined three wheeler cars, with two wheels in the front and one in the rear. After these early three wheelers, which included the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/v-twin-three-wheeler/">V-Twin Three Wheeler</a> and <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/f-series-three-wheeler/">F-Series Three Wheeler</a>, Morgan began building four wheel roadsters with models such as the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/44/">4/4</a> and the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/plus-4/">+4</a>, before later models like the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/plus-8/">Plus 8</a> and <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/aero-8/">Aero 8</a> only further established the company as a builder of retro-inspired, classically designed sporty roadsters.

The Morgan +4, also known as the Plus 4, was a series of roadsters introduced in 1950. The +4 was developed from the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/44/">Morgan 4/4</a>, and was created to be a more powerful, larger sports car. This new model was mostly offered in two and four seat roadster body styles, but a two or four seat drophead coupe was also available. Over the course of production, Morgan used a wide range of inline four engines to power the +4. Three main generations were built: <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/plus-4/1st-gen/">1st Gen (1950-1969)</a>, <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/plus-4/2nd-gen/">2nd Gen (1985-2000)</a>, and <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/plus-4/3rd-gen/">3rd Gen (2005-2021)</a>.

Morgan first introduced the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/plus-4/">+4</a> in 1950. This new model of sports cars featured a longer chassis than its sibling, the Morgan 4/4, and was offered in two or four door roadster, or two or four door drophead coupe. The first generation of +4 was initially powered by a 68hp 2.1L inline four engine, but in 1953, it was replaced by a more powerful 2.0L Triumph-sourced unit. This engine only lasted until 1955, when Morgan updated it with the 2.0L unit from the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/triumph/tr3">Triumph TR3</a>. From 1962 onwards, the larger 2.1L inline four engine from the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/triumph/tr4">Triumph TR4</a> was used. Production of the first generation +4 lasted until 1969, when it was replaced by the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/plus-4/2nd-gen/">Second Generation Morgan +4</a>.

For 1985, Morgan reintroduced the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/plus-4/">+4</a> to its model lineup. This second generation of +4 was launched with a Fiat-sourced 2.0L inline four engine, but from 1988 onwards, this engine was replaced by a Rover-sourced inline four unit. These rear wheel cars retained much of the style of its predecessor, but featured many modern improvements. Production of the second generation +4 lasted until 2000, and it wouldn&#39;t be until 2005 that Morgan would introduce the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/plus-4/3rd-gen/">Third Generation +4</a>.

The third and final iteration of the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/morgan/plus-4/">Morgan +4</a> was introduced in 2005. This updated +4 saw the use of a Ford-sourced inline four engine, as well as various small improvements, without any major changes to the well established formula. These roadsters were offered in two or four seat configurations, and were built until 2021.
