Oldsmobile first introduced the Cutlass name in 1961, as a premium trim option for the Oldsmobile F-85. The first generation Cutlass was fitted with a 3.5L Rockette V8 engine, and was available as a compact coupe or convertible. A notable first generation variant was the Jetfire, a turbocharged coupe that was one of the first turbo production cars, even though it had reliability issues. Production of the first generation Cutlass continued until 1963, when the Second Generation Oldsmobile Cutlass was unveiled.
