Since both the six and eight cylinder engines were offered for the Series 70, each version had its own designator. 76 and 78 were the new designators uesd, with the second digit representing the number of engine cylinders each version offered. The name Dynamic was also used to help separate the Series 70 from other models at the time. The second generation Series 70 was offered as a coupe or sedan, and was in production until 1948, when it was replaced by the Third Generation Oldsmobile Series 70.
