Porsche 911 GT3 - 996.1 (1999 to 2001)

The Porsche 911 GT3 (996.1), produced from 1999 to 2001, was developed as the spiritual successor to the Carrera RS lineage, marking Porsche’s return to homologation-style road cars with motorsport roots. Based on the first phase of the 996-generation 911, the 996.1 GT3 featured a naturally aspirated 3.6L “Mezger” flat-six engine (M96/79), producing approximately 355 horsepower and paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission derived from the 993 GT2. The 996.1 GT3 featured rear-wheel drive, dry-sump lubrication, stiffer adjustable suspension, upgraded brakes, and lacked rear seats to reduce weight, reflecting its track-focused design and similarity to its Cup-racing counterpart. It was offered in standard and Clubsport configurations, the latter adding a factory roll cage and fire suppression system, tailored for track use. The 996.1 GT3 represents the first GT3-badged Porsche and laid the foundation for the brand’s modern track-focused lineup. Total production was limited to around 1,868 units.
