In 1905, production of the Rover 12 began for the first time. It was a series of models called "12," but they were separated by multiple generations: the 1st Gen (1905–1907), the 2nd Gen (1909–1910), the 3rd Gen (1910–1912), the 4th Gen (1912–1924), and the 5th Gen (1934–1936). The vehicle was manufactured as both a two-door and a four-door open-top models, and its available engines included those with two cylinders, four cylinders, and six cylinders inline. Late cars were even equipped with synchromesh transmissions and fixed tops. There was no successor to the Rover 12 series.
