In 1986, Rover began production of the 800 series of automobiles, which became known as the "heir apparent" to the legendary Rover SD1. The Acura Legend served as the inspiration for these vehicles, which featured front-wheel drive as well as inline four or V6 engines. These cars were built in sedan and coupe body styles and were usually equipped with various conveniences. Notable variants included the 820, 825, 827, Vitesse, and Sterling. This executive class of car was eventually succeeded by the Rover 75 in 1998.
