The fourth generation of Studebaker Commander debuted for the 1953 model year. The fourth generation Commander was offered in sedan, coupe, and station wagon body styles, including a special coupe variant known as the Starliner. These cars were available with inline six or V8 engines, as well as manual or automatic transmissions. In 1955, Studebaker reintroduced the President, thus making the Commander the company's intermediate model. Production of the fourth generation Commander lasted until 1956, when it was replaced by the Fifth Generation Studebaker Commander.
