The Stutz Motor Company was an American automotive manufacturer established in 1911. Stutz was founded by famed race car engineer and builder, Harry C. Stutz, and his partner Henry F Campbell. This new company specialized in creating luxurious high performance cars that were amongst the fastest in the world during their production. These cars included the famed <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/stutz/bearcat/">Bearcat</a> and <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/stutz/vertical-eight/">Vertical Eight</a>. Stutz would encounter financial problems, eventually shutting down production in 1935 and declaring bankruptcy in 1937. After a long period of dormancy, the Stutz brand was revived in 1968 by famed automotive designer Virgil Exner, this time known as Stutz Motor Car of America. This new iteration of Stutz built limited production luxury cars such as the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/stutz/iv-porte/">IV-Porte</a>, and the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/stutz/blackhawk/2nd-gen/">Blackhawk</a>.

The Stutz Speedway was a series of cars introduced in 1922. The Speedway was named for its &#39;Speedway Six&#39; engine. This engine was Stutz&#39;s first six cylinder engine, as the company had only worked with four cylinder units previously. Stutz offered the Speedway in a range of open and closed body styles, alongside various coachbuilt body styles. Production of the Stutz Speedway lasted until 1926.

The Stutz Vertical Eight was a series of luxury cars introduced in 1926. The Vertical Eight was created after Harry C. Stutz had left the company he created, and new management decided to focus on high end luxury cars, as the brand had previously focused on high performance cars. The Vertical Eight was named for its inline eight engine which featured two spark plugs per cylinder. This series of cars was initially launched with the Model AA variant, followed by other variants such as the Model BB, Model M, Model MA, and Model MB. The two most notable variants were the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/stutz/vertical-eight/sv-16/">SV-16</a> and the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/stutz/vertical-eight/dv-32/">DV-32</a>, these featured powerful and advanced engines that make them some of the most desirable examples of a Stutz car. The Stutz IV-Porte was a series of limited production sedans introduced in 1971. The IV-Porte, meaning &#39;four doors,&#39; was largely based on the Stutz Blackhawk, and was powered by a 5.7L V8 engine. Only around 50 examples of the IV-Porte, including variants known as the Duplex and Victoria, were believed to have built before production ended in 1985.
