The second generation of Subaru Impreza WRX was a performance focused version of the Second Generation Impreza. Introduced for the 2001 model year (2002 in North America), the WRX featured a turbocharged 2.0L flat four engine sending power to all four wheels. Sedan and five door hatchback body styles were offered, as was the higher performance WRX STi variant, which used the WRX as a base. In 2006, the WRX saw an upgrade to the 2.5L turbocharged flat four engine. Production of the second generation Impreza WRX continued until 2007, when it was replaced by the Third Generation Subaru Impreza WRX.
