Toyota MR2 Spider - W20 (1996 to 1999)

The MR2 Spider was an official conversion carried out by Toyota TechnoCraft, introduced in 1996 as a convertible version of the Toyota MR2 - W20. It was not part of Toyota's standard production run but was produced by the special projects division. This version featured a retractable soft-top, spoilerless rear and engine covers and other distinctive details. Most were powered by naturally aspirated 2.0L inline four 3S-GE engines and automatic transmissions, although rare examples were fitted with BEAMS engines or manual gearboxes. During testing, problems with roof leaks were detected and Toyota avoided applying its name or logo to the cars so as not to publicly link them to this defect. Today they are highly sought-after collector's items due to their scarcity and "official but not factory" origin. The Toyota MR2 Spider - W20 was produced until 1999.
