The Volvo 850 T-5R was a limited edition performance variant of the Volvo 850 that was offered for the 1995 model year. The T-5R was given a raft of cosmetic and mechanical improvements to give the car a sporting character. In addition to these changes, the T-5R was powered by a tuned version of Volvo's B5234T5 engine, which was a 244hp turbocharged inline five. This engine sent power to the rear wheels via a 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic transmission, although the manual was not offered in North America. The T-5R was offered in sedan and wagon body styles, leading to four main variants: Sedan - Manual, Sedan - Automatic, Wagon - Manual, and Wagon - Automatic. Just a total of 6,964 examples of the Volvo 850 T-5R were built before the end of production.
