The Volvo 900 Series was introduced for the 1991 model year. The 900 Series was offered in two main variants, the 940 and 960, both of which were available as a sedan or station wagon. During its production, the 900 Series represented the most refined and luxurious Volvos built, with the 960 being the better equipped and trimmed variant. The 900 Series was available with a range of inline four, inline six, and V6 engines durings its production run. For the last few years of production, the 900 Series became known as the S90 (sedan) and V90 (estate), before these names were spun off into individual models. Production of the Volvo 900 Series ended in 1998.
