The Volvo S40 was a series of compact sedans and estates introduced for the 1996 model year. The S40 was built in two generations: 1st Gen (1996-2004) and 2nd Gen (2004-2012), and was offered with a range of inline four and inline five engines. For the first generation a sedan and station wagon were offered, but for the second generation, only a sedan was sold. Production of the Volvo S40 ended in 2012.
