Volvo S80 - 1st Gen (1999 to 2006)

The first-generation Volvo S80 debuted for the 1999 model year as Volvo’s new mid-size executive sedan. Built on the innovative P2 platform, it was produced from 1998 to 2006 and introduced Volvo’s first transverse-mounted inline-six engine in a luxury saloon. Early S80s offered a spectrum of transversely-mounted five-cylinder engines, ranging from lively 2.0L Turbo units to a potent 2.9L Twin-turbo I6 delivering 272hp, all blending seamless power with Volvo’s renowned reliability. Power reached the front wheels or, optionally, all four, via a 5 speed manual or a selection of 4 or 5 speed automatic transmissions. By the time production concluded in 2006, more than 368,000 S80s were built, setting the stage for the sleeker, second generation model that followed.
