Zimmer Quicksilver (1986 to 1989)

The Zimmer Quicksilver is a mid-engined "modern classic" luxury coupe produced by the Zimmer Motor Cars Corporation between 1984 and 1988, with approximately 170 units built at the Pompano Beach factory. Unlike the Mustang-based Golden Spirit, the Quicksilver was built on a modified Pontiac Fiero chassis that was stretched by 16 inches to create a long, sleek silhouette featuring massive chrome bumpers and a vertical grille. Every factory Quicksilver was powered by a 2.8L L44 V6 engine paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission, as no manual versions were ever produced by the factory. Key features included its radical composite body panels over a high-strength steel spaceframe, pop-up headlights, and a completely overhauled interior that replaced the donor Fiero's plastic cabin with Italian leather, real wood burl veneers, and Mouton sheepskin carpets, positioning it as a unique American alternative to high-end European grand tourers.
