Ford’s successor to the legendary Model T debuted in 1928 to widespread acclaim. By then, utilitarian Model T was being surpassed by Chevrolet in dealerships, prompting Ford to develop a more competitive offering. This charming 1930 Ford Model A Town Sedan is an exceptional example, accompanied by its original paperwork issued by Vailsburg Motor Corporation when first purchased in February 1930 by James Mikkelsen of Newark. This particular car has been owned long-term by a single family, who have lovingly maintained it for the past 60 years.
Recently, the vehicle underwent comprehensive mechanical restoration, including a professionally rebuilt engine by Schwalm’s, a renowned expert in Strasburg, PA. The restoration covered the radiator, engine, clutch, carburetor, and an electrical system check. The engine starts easily and runs strong, with minimal leaks and excellent road performance. Over the years, we’ve sold many fine Model As, and this one stands out as one of the best driving examples we’ve encountered.
The exterior is presented in two tones of green with black fenders and luggage, exhibiting minimal imperfections and retaining a visually appealing appearance. All trim elements, including the distinctive radiator shell and classic wire wheels, are in excellent condition, highlighting the vehicle’s originality and meticulous craftsmanship. This model is well appointed with features such as windshield swing arms, painted wire wheels, a radiator stone guard, rear mirrors, trunk rack and luggage, dual side-mounted spare tires, post and driving lights, and elegant interior shades.
Inside, the upholstery remains in outstanding condition with seats that show virtually no signs of wear or damage. Door panels and carpeting are also excellent, and the dash’s beautiful finish highlights the car’s unique character.
