Some vehicles become rare because few survived. This 1933 Ford Model B Roadster Pickup was rare from the day it was built.

Published production figures commonly cited for Ford Roadster Pickups total only 1,450 examples across 1932, 1933 and 1934. Of these, 510 were reportedly built for 1933, split between four-cylinder and V8 models. The exact number produced in right-hand drive remains unclear, but it would have represented a small part of total production.

This SAVVA-dated 1933 example retains the open-cab design that makes these early pickups so charming. Its two-tone green finish is paired with a tan canvas roof, timber load-bin rails, wire wheels and cream whitewall tyres.

Inside, the woodgrain dashboard, large steering wheel, floor-mounted gear lever and tartan-trimmed bench seat capture the simple character of early motoring. Under the bonnet sits the Ford four-cylinder side-valve engine.

Ford celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1933, making this pickup part of an important year in the company’s history.

Most importantly, this is not a static display. It is running and driving, with its papers in order and ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.

Finding another genuine 1933 Roadster Pickup will be difficult. Finding one in right-hand drive, with SAVVA dating and South African papers, will be harder still.
