1949 Ford Custom Deluxe / Deluxe

In 1949 Ford was the first domestic auto manufacturer to launch an all new "post war" product line. These cars are known as the "Shoebox Fords", for its slab-sided "ponton" design, removing running boards entirely and integrating front and rear fenders into a single, smooth body form. After WWII these new Fords were the beginning of a new chapter in history bringing the future of automotive design to the everyday citizen. The modern "bullet nose" front end was a fresh face on the road and you would see these cars parked in many neighborhoods and driving all around town. Ford was the number one selling brand that year with over 1.1 million vehicles going to new buyers. The 49 ford has also starred in many movies that showcase 1950s living, like "Rebel Without a Cause" where it is said that the film's prop Ford Convertible was a favorite for James Dean to take out to lunch. Another fun scene was in "Stand By Me" where Kiefer Sutherland's character "Ace" was riding shotgun in a 49 Convertible playing mailbox baseball, these are among the many many films that use these Fords to convey the 1950s lifestyle and have made the car a cultural icon today.

This 1949 Ford is the desirable Custom Convertible Coupe finished in Sportsman Green over a Black/Green interior and is fitted with the iconic 239ci "Flathead V8" with a 3-speed column shift. The car features a power folding black canvas soft top, wide whitewall tires, clock, Magic Air heater, am radio, driver side spot lamp, and fog lamps. The car comes to us from the daughter of its former owner whom had owned this car for many many years, it was his pride and joy and was taken to multiple Northwest car shows every year. The car is a nice, driver/survivor car that has been maintained and improved as needed over the years but has never been fully restored. This old Ford has the charm and patina that will allow you to use it as-is unapologetically, or could be a blank canvas for your dream hot rod build. The Sportsman Green paint was just cut and polished and shines well but has age related patina with some overspray, chips, and light scratches here and there. Chrome is very nice, and the glass is free of any cracks. The body is solid and the car just received a carburetor overhaul, oil change, and new cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. The power soft top works great, lights/brake lights and horn function well. The wipers, turn signals, radio, clock, and heater fan will need some electrical attention. The interior shows nicely with seats, door panels, and floor coverings in excellent condition and likely were redone at some point not too long ago. This is a nice driver, classic Ford that will not brake the bank to own and will get lots of thumbs up, and smiles as you motor on down the road.
