This 1950 Allard P1 is one of approximately 559 two-door saloon examples produced by the London-based manufacturer between 1949 and 1953. It was imported to the US under prior ownership and purchased by the current owner in 1992. The car subsequently underwent refurbishment work including a repaint in two-tone gray and blue, and it has been on display at the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum since the mid-2000s ([website hidden]/car-collection/1950-allard-p1).
It is powered by a 221ci Ford flathead V8 paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission, and equipment includes 16″ steel wheels, drum brakes, driving lamps, trafficators, and rear-hinged doors. Inside, bench seating re-trimmed in red leather is accompanied by a Bluemel’s Brooklands steering wheel and Smiths instrumentation. This P1 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a clean Florida title in the name of the owner’s LLC.
Sydney Allard began his company by building lightweight pre-war specials with American V8 powerplants, competing at Le Mans and winning the Monte Carlo Rally with a P1 saloon in 1952. The aluminum coachwork of this example was repainted in its current two-tone blue and gray scheme under current ownership. Exterior details include a chrome grille and bumpers with overriders as well as driving lamps, trafficators, fender-mounted side mirrors, rear-hinged doors, and a single exhaust outlet.
Gray-painted 16″ wheels wear bright Allard-branded hubcaps and are mounted with 6.00/6.50″ Michelin Superconfort tires. Suspension is comprised of a divided front axle with coil springs and a live rear axle with a traverse leaf spring. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes.
The right-hand-drive cabin was reupholstered as part of the refurbishment and houses two rows of seating trimmed in red leather accompanied by color-coordinated door panels and replacement carpets. Black rubber linings cover the footwells, while refreshed wood trim accents the dashboard and door caps. Lap belts are fitted for the front occupants.
The Bluemel’s Brooklands banjo-style steering wheel wears a leather lace-up cover and front Smiths instrumentation including a 110-km/h speedometer and gauges monitoring oil pressure, water temperature, amperage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 3,200 kilometers (~2k miles), and total mileage is unknown.
