1954 Studebaker Panel Wagon
Body Style- 2 door panel delivery wagon
Mileage: 1750 since rebuild completed
VIN or Chassis number: G929741
Transmission: Ford AOD auto
Engine type: Ford 302 V8
Vehicle Description:
This 1954 Studebaker VIN and chassis number leads to a 1954 Studebaker 2 door station wagon, however, this 2 door Commander wagon never had any station wagon windows. The August 1986 edition of the Studebaker “Turning Wheels” magazine described and pictured 3 prototype panel delivery wagons that were never put into production (see copy of article below). This car is believed to be one of those three prototypes as there was no evidence during the frame-off restoration that the car ever had rear side windows.
The car was rescued from a storage yard in California and brought to Prescott, Arizona where it underwent a complete frame-off restoration over 5 years to completion in 2023.
The rebuild project is fully documented from start to finish with an extensive photo history. The rebuild project involved:
• Ford 302 V8 with Ford AOD transmission and Ford 9” rear end.
• A 1971 Nova front clip and steering box with upgraded steering pump installed.
• Wilwood disc brakes all around.
• All new re-chromed exterior trim and bumpers
• New gas tank and fuel system
• The red interior was meticulously hand-crafted with complete restoration of the original dash, power front seats from a Ford Thunderbird, red carpet and panels throughout.
• After market Vintage AC works great
This car starts, runs and drives great. It is frequently driven for pleasure and brings lots of attention with comments on how beautiful it is and “I have never seen one”. The exterior paint is a Mercedes Silver and appears nicely applied but cannot be described as show quality. The chrome-work, trim, glass and wheels are all top-notch condition. The engine bay, block, inner fenders and firewall are painted and free from dirt and grime
the three “prototype delivery” cars, makes this car special. The car is beautiful and well-built with a few minor cosmetic flaws, however, due to the rarity and customizations, this car would be a great edition to the collection of any Studebaker enthusiast.
Added Note- The car has a fun logo decal added to the side panels that is owner specific (see photo below) and is easily removable without any paint damage.
