What’s special about this listing

The current owner of this car is a former policeman who was injured in the line of duty. Having more time to pursue his love of cars sent him down the road of chasing this gorgeous Sunliner. Unfortunately, as time has moved along and he's gotten just a bit older, his injury has made it rather difficult to drive a standard shift vehicle, so it's time for this show winner to move on to a new home.

Originally rolling out of the factory in Raven Black over red and white upholstery, it underwent a complete nut and bolt restoration about 15 years ago. This owner purchased it roughly 12 years ago and has cherished it since, doting o it's every need and keeping it as good as it was when he purchased it. He isn't shy about driving it in good weather though. He has put roughly 2000 miles on it in his 12 years of ownership, mostly just to local shows. The odometer shows just 3074 miles since te restoration.

The bright red paint is blindingly shiny, the chrome will also cause you to pull out the sunglasses and is near perfect. In my time with the car I found only a few very small nicks in the paint, along high use areas like the door close and door entry along the rocker (called out in the photos, some of these from the owner's cane on the rocker). The interior is also near perfect and in the red and white vinyl, really pops against the red paint.

Absolutely everything was touched in this literally just 3000 miles old restoration.

You can eat off every surface on this car (not that you would.. LOL), including the underside. The owner used to shine the frame but his disability has kept him from getting under the car of late, but it's still in concours condition.

The 292 4 barrel Thunderbird V8 is reportedly the original engine having been rebuilt during the restoration. It runs through a three speed manual (on the tree) with overdrive. Tap the gas a couple times, turn the key and it fires right up, the dual exhaust giving it a very nice rumble, gauges showing temp, fuel, and speed. There is an oil pressure and generator light. The electric clock does work. As a matter of fact, all the electronics work .. including the lights, wipers, overdrive, fan and the power top. The white top is in near perfect condition as well, with a zipper issue on the rear window and a small seam separation the only issues. The owner will have the zipper fixed before it goes to a new home.

Driving down the road is a little like piloting a small boat, at least compared to today's cars. It is almost 18 feet long (it has the full continental kit) but the V8 moves it along with ease and the OD sets you up for easy 60+ mph cruising. It has 4 wheel drum brakes which stop the car well and the other key option on a car this big is power steering, which is typically light for a 50's era car.

The tires are Goodyear Super Cushion and although replicas are not steel belted radials.

This is truly a high number 2 car (as in almost a #1 car) and ready to take to shows, cruise nights, etc and take home trophies if that's your thing.
