1960 Chevrolet Impala Pro-Touring Car
About 4 years ago, the current owner of this beautiful 60 Impala, heard of a pile of parts that needed to be assembled, sitting in a garage here in the state of CT.
What he saw when he opened the door was a painted shell of this Impala and parts in bins, the interior in pieces, etc.
He brought it back to his garage and immediately jumped in to putting it together.
Apparently it had been in the other garage for several years, maybe 10 or more.
Starting with the body, it's coated in a very deep pearlescent white metallic, with a grey metallic covering the roof and the side "stripe" insert.
There are a few small blemishes in the paint, pointed out in the photos and video, but hardly discernible at 5 feet. The biggest flaw is the in the tinted windshield, however, the car comes with a new one.
To complete the look, the lowered Global West suspension sports BFG radials wrapped around 17" Street Pro Crager wheels. The tires are 235/60/R17 in front , 265/60/R17 out back.
Under the hood, a rebuilt 355 Chevy V8 runs a FiTech fuel injection set up, MSD electronic ignition, Hedman headers, Summit 4BBL aluminum intake manifold, lots of chrome/aluminum dress up goodies, Vintage Air, Wilwood complete brake set up ( electric power discs front and rear), power steering, Stewart aluminum water pump, Griffin alum radiator, dual Spal electric fans and finned aluminum valve covers and air cleaner.
Turn the key, listen for the fuel pump, turn it one more notch and she fires right up and rumbles through the 3" side exit exhaust.
The power, estimated at up over 400 HP, is routed through a Borg/Warner 5 speed manual transmission with an SFI scatter shield. The solid driveshaft connects to a Ford 9" with a Global West 5 link coil suspension.
This car looks great, sounds great and drives much more like a new pro touring car than a 65 year old Chevy.
The interior was kept stock appearing, with black and white hounds tooth pattern, polished aluminum and the usual amount of chrome .. what stands out though are the power window switches, the air conditioning vents and the 5 speed stick shift. The odometer shows just about 33,000 miles but it is figured there are less than 5000 miles on the car since being built.
The underside of the car is completely painted and shows no rust whatsoever.
Everything works as it should.
Aside from those two minor issues, this car is totally turn key and ready to go on the Hot Rod Power Tour and provide a powerful, comfortable and reliable ride.
While it can stand it's own at any local car show, the few minor foibles make it that much easier to just get in and drive it like it was built to be.
Try and build the same car for less than the asking price of $64,900.
Even if you did 80% of the work yourself, can't be done.
