1964 Shelby Daytona CSX9000

This stunning example was owned by influencer and internet personality Vinny Giglio’s 1964 Shelby Daytona Coupe. Chassis CSX9178 boasts a custom three-stage paint job in Fuji Pearl, accented with twin Viper Blue Le Mans stripes, a Carbon Flash pinstripe, and painted, Viper Blue half-cove stripes. Inside, the car features white, diamond-stitched seats and a matching center tunnel. Knock-off Halibrand wheels are finished with polished aluminum spinners for a polished, race-inspired look.

Under the hood is a 427 Ford Super Street series engine, built by Prestige Motorsports. Starting with an aftermarket 351w block, the motor includes a forged steel crankshaft, forged H-beam rods, forged pistons, a hydraulic roller camshaft and lifters, CNC-ported aluminum heads, and roller rockers. Topping it all off is a Holley 8-stack EFI induction system. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Tremec TKX 5-speed transmission with a 26-spline input shaft and a 0.81:1 overdrive.

The engine installation and initial shakedown were completed in early 2024 by the legendary Dennis Olthoff. His father, Bob Olthoff, raced the original Daytona for Shelby in the 1960s—no one knows these cars better than Dennis and his team at Olthoff Racing, Inc.

This vehicle includes an additional set of custom Forgeline wheels, valued at nearly $5,000, and has been wrapped in paint protection film (PPF), at a cost exceeding $3,000. CSX9178 is titled in South Carolina as a 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona, with a clean title under VIN: CSX9178. To order a similar Daytona today would cost in excess of $300,000 and would not be delivered until 2028!

For those unfamiliar with the Shelby Daytona’s significance: in 1964, Shelby American re-bodied a Cobra roadster with a more aerodynamic design, aiming to take on Le Mans, beat Ferrari, and become the world GT manufacturer champion. It was a bold, almost unbelievable endeavor—that a high-school dropout and former chicken farmer could rework a Ford-powered roadster and dethrone Ferrari. But as the saying goes, truth is stranger than fiction. In 1964, the Daytona won the GT class at Le Mans. In 1965, it became the World GT Champion, the first and only American car to do so. Only six original Daytona Coupes were produced by Shelby American. Today, those six rarely change hands and are valued at over $20 million each. Notably, the very first Cobra Daytona Coupe was the first car entered into the American Historic Vehicle Registry—arguably making the Cobra Daytona the most historically significant car in American automotive history.

Over the years, many companies have attempted to replicate the Daytona. Some succeeded, others fell short. In the 2000s, Shelby American resumed production of the Daytona as a Continuation Series—authentic Daytona’s built by Shelby American itself, not homebuilt kit cars or third-party replicas.
