And no one expected it. Even Enzo Ferrari who declared, upon seeing it for the first time, that it was the most beautiful car in the world. Stunning design, unrivaled performance, and racing lineage made the E-Type an immediate sensation. With its beautiful lines and surprisingly affordable price, the E-Type grew to iconic status where it has remained for more than half a century adored by collectors and enthusiasts. Independent front and rear suspension, disc brakes all around (inboard at the rear to reduce unsprung weight), and Jaguars legendary twin-cam inline six-cylinder engine were just part of the allure. Sales were brisk in both coupe and roadster form with continuous development growing in American and European markets, affording ongoing advances including the 4.2-liter engine and fully synchronized gearboxes for 1965. Later cars, particularly those imported to the United States, had safety and emissions equipment that negatively influenced both performance and aesthetics, thus making Series I 4.2-liter cars among the most desirable among performance enthusiasts. History of this Jaguar According to the Jaguar Heritage Certificate included with this car, this Series 1 Jaguar was built April 7, 1966 and finished in opalescent dark green with a beige interior and black top. The car was dispatched April 26, 1966, to Jaguar Cars, New York and delivered to the first owner, Howard S. Weiss, a resident of New Jersey. The car was purchased by Predator Performance, FL in 2005 and comprehensively restored with the goal of achieving top level awards in Jaguar Club of America concours competitions. The restoration was completed in 2012 with over $80,000 in restoration expenses logged in the handwritten notes and further documented by over 100 restoration parts and services receipts also accompanying the car. In 2012, shortly after the restoration was completed, this Jaguar competed in a national JCoA concours event, scoring 98.9 out of 100 points. The current owner purchased this car in 2013 after the restoration was completed and has personally maintained it on an as needed basis including the installation of a new battery in July 2025. Current Condition Today, the condition of this car is simply stunning. The color combination is among the best one might find on an E-Type roadster. The paint is excellent throughout with beautiful gloss and deep metallic luster. The underside areas of the doors, hood, and trunk are all finished with equal care. The panel fit is excellent though the hood requires a bit more pressure when latching on the passenger side. The body panels exhibit beautiful shut lines, and the doors have excellent closure with smooth operating side glass. All trim, script, and piping have been applied with jewel-like care and precision. The wire wheels wear dual ear knockoffs and red line Coker Classic tires installed in 2012. A matching hardtop is also beautifully finished with excellent rear glass and beautiful headliner. The interior is in handsome condition having been both thoughtfully and expertly redone with correct leather seats and trim, excellent quality carpeting, and a pristine dashboard. The gauges are crisp and clear with excellent nomenclature, correct switches, and superb finishes. Although this car originally left the factory with a beige interior, the red leather is an absolutely sublime match to the exterior color. The black canvas top appears like new and stows properly in the area behind the seats. Fit and finish throughout the interior once again is among the finest one will find in any XKE. The engine compartment is beautifully presented in appearance and detail with all components prepared as originally intended, with finishes, hardware, and details reflective of original production standards echoing the near perfect score achieved after the restoration was completed. Engine details include the correct Champion branded ignition wires, correct polish to the alloy components, gold valley finish on the head, and correct hammer-tone finish on the air cleaner housing. The original numbers matching block and head are in place and the 4-speed manual transmission is also believed to be original to this car. As one might expect, the undercarriage is in excellent condition, with all structural panels sound throughout and superb restoration efforts still showing virtually no signs of inclement weather use. The picture frame forward frame section bears the matching serial number, the legendary Jaguar independent rear suspension and inboard rear brakes are in excellent condition, and the floor pans appear as new. In addition to the astonishing cosmetics, this XKE roadster starts, runs, and drives quite well, including excellent brakes, balanced steering, and a smooth operating clutch and gearbox. The owner reports that, in recent years, his use has been minimal and as such we would recommend a capable shop inspect all systems prior to a lengthy drive or extended use.
