1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL

What’s special about this listing
The nickname “Pagoda” is one that tends to stick. Designed in the 1960s, yet still something people pause for when they see it. A nice detail: that distinctive shape was not just for looks, but also for structural strength. That is how Mercedes engineered its cars even back then.
In 1963, the 230 SL was introduced. At the time, Mercedes had something to prove. The 300 SL was highly impressive, but simply out of reach for many. The 190 SL looked the part, but according to some, lacked performance. With the 230 SL, Mercedes-Benz provided the answer. Described by Mercedes itself as a fast and safe ‘sports car,’ but one that you could comfortably drive all the way to the south of France. That idea is still very much present the moment you sit behind the wheel.
Under the hood sits a 2.3-liter inline-six with a wonderful sound. Not excessively fast, but exactly sufficient. It is mainly the way it delivers its power. Smooth, composed, and very comfortable to drive. A truly excellent Mercedes with outstanding touring capabilities.
The example we have here is genuinely special. Just two owners since 1967. Only 42,000 miles. That is highly exceptional and rarely seen today, especially when combined with what may be even more important: originality.
This SL has never really been restored. The original weld points are still visible. The interior looks superb. The leather has not been “recreated,” but has simply aged beautifully. And that is exactly what makes it so appealing. And the condition? Remarkable for an original Mercedes from 1967. The paintwork is well preserved, as is the chrome. This is something that should not be restored. Please view the photos on our website for a detailed impression.
The color combination further enhances the overall appearance. “Grey Beige” with a green leather interior. Not loud, but exceptionally tasteful. And perfectly in keeping with the era in which this Mercedes was built. It suits this Pagoda incredibly well. Have you already seen the photos on our website?
The documentation is extensive, including original booklets and invoices. In addition, this Mercedes retains its matching numbers and colors. And then comes the best part: you turn the key, hear the inline-six come to life smoothly, and you know exactly what you have. Not a restored car trying to be perfect, but an original Pagoda that has simply remained true to itself. That is exactly how this Mercedes feels on the road. Very special and highly sought after.
