About this 1968 Shelby GT500 Tribute

VIN: 8F02S106035

Details

This 1968 Ford Mustang is powered by a 351ci V8 (Cleveland) engine and backed by a four-speed manual top loader transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. The car was refinished in red with white racing stripes and complemented with a new black leather interior. This modified Mustang is a tribute to the 1967 Shelby GT500 and wears Shelby equipment such as hood pins, some fiberglass body panels, a Shelby steering wheel, insignia, side scoops, tail spoiler, and front fog lamps. Additional features include power steering, power brakes, a nine-inch rear differential, subframe connectors, and a custom exhaust system. A complete list of modifications is found below. The odometer shows 1,034 miles, however, the true mileage of the vehicle is unknown. The previous owner stewarded the car since the 90s in West Virginia, and the car is currently located in Tennessee.

The third-party photos and inspection display this Mustangs condition well. The exterior of the car shows nicely, as does the interior. The owner notes a refurbishment was performed in 2008, and the quality is reflected in the vehicle. The car was refurbished in the style of a Shelby GT500, although not an authentic Shelby. The inspection does state that the horn is inoperable. Mechanically the car operates as it should, and a video of the swapped 351ci engine can be seen in the accompanying video. Included in the sale are two sets of keys and a Shelby owners manual.

This Mustang is being sold through a CLASSIC.COM Pro and is located in Rutledge, Tennessee.

About the model

The Mustang fastback body style was one of three available for the Base 1967-1968 First Generation Ford Mustang. Alongside the Hardtop and Convertible body styles, the Fastback was available with a variety of engines, from the "T-code" 200 cubic inches (3.3L) 120hp inline-six to the "K-code" 289 cubic inches (4.7L) 'HiPo' 271hp V8, or the "J-code" 302 cubic inches (4.9L) 230hp V8. The top engine offering was Ford's new "S-code" 390 cubic inches (6.4L) 'FE' big block V8 engine, which had an output of 320hp. These engines were available with three transmissions: a 3-speed manual, a 4-speed manual, or a 3-speed automatic, all of which sent drive to the rear wheels. The base Model 1967-1968 Ford Mustang Fastback was replaced when Ford introduced the 1969-1970 first Generation Ford Mustang.
