The Porsche 912 was introduced in 1965 as a more budget friendly option to the 911 and carried over the 1600cc flat 4-cylinder "type-616" motor of the outgoing 356SC with a 4-speed manual gearbox as standard equipment. For 1969 both the 911 and the 912 had the wheelbase extended by 2.25 inches to which these are referred to as the Long-hood/long wheel base models. 1969 would be the only year you could have the Long-hood/LWB 912 variant thus making it quite collectable today. These 912s are a great way to have classic 911 looks and great handling (some say superior due to the better weight distribution of the lighter weight 4-cylinder) package that trade hands for about half as their equivalent 911 big bother.
This 1969 model year 912 was built in February of the same year and originally distributed by Volkswagen-Porsche Pacific Inc. The car retains its original numbers matching motor and gearbox, it is believed that the car lived most of its life in California but not much of its history is documented. The car was purchased in 2014 from Utah by Northwest enthusiast whom kept the car until the current owner's acquisition in 2021. At some point the car received a complete, glass-out respray in Tangerine which still looks good today aside from a few age related chips here and there. The brightwork is in great shape as is-all the glass. Much work has been done to this 912 to restore the mechanicals to excellent spec. In October of 2025 the engine received a complete rebuild by Squires Autoweke of Bellevue to the tune of $26,000, this included upgrades to Willhoit cylinder heads w/ aluminum oil cooler, JE pistons, new camshaft, electronic ignition, and a new clutch kit. The muffler was replaced and many parts in the motor compartment were sandblasted and powder coated. The front seats were also recovered with new upholstery and vintage white/black/red pepita inserts which look awesome. In 2024 the fuel tank was removed, cleaned and coated, new fuel lines fitted and the fuel pump was rebuilt. In 2022 all 4 brake calipers were rebuilt, new pads and rotors fitted, and a new ATE master cylinder was installed. In 2021 all instruments were removed and sent to North Hollywood Speedometer Co for rebuilding and the clock was converted to quartz at the same time. All gauges function perfectly today. In 2017 the Solex 40P11 carburetors were rebuilt by Morris Brothers Motorsports of Utah. The car sits on 15-inch factory chrome wheels with Continental tires with 2016 date codes. The interior is very nice, the original dash pad is free, the headliner is clean, door panels and rear seat area look great with no visible wear, and the grey carpets are in excellent shape. The original steering wheel has an older leather wrap and we do not know the condition underneath. A modern Blaupunkt Toronto CD stereo with bluetooth is fitted along with speakers located in the lower door panels and they are in good working condition. Up front in the trunk, a spare wheel/tire sit in the well with the original jack and partial tool kit. The car retains its original owner's manual in the glove box and has 2 keys with 2 spare uncut blanks. Full service history from 2014 to current is documented in a 3-ring binder. All electrical is in good working order and the car drives practically like new with great throttle response and easy shifting up/down in all gears. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a fully sorted 912 that is a rapidly appreciating model of Porsche history that enjoys an ever increasing fan base.
