1971 Chevy Chevelle Malibu - ALL ORIGINAL PAINT - 670HP Big Block 488CI - Built TH400 - Ford 9" Rear End - FAST!!
This Malibu still retains ALL of its original factory paint entirely. It has never been touched up or repainted on any spot on the car. It’s an incredibly solid west coast car. The paint is thin and checking over much of the car’s body. When I got it, I took the buffer to it, putting a coat of quality carnauba wax on it to keep the surface rust at bay. The patina on this car is super cool. It looks absolutely great.
This Chevelle is absolutely strait and incredibly quick. The 488 big block has massive torque. Throttle response is instantaneous and shocking. It goes down the road perfect, with great steering feel. With the four wheel Wilwood brakes, the Malibu stops strait and quick. The Global West suspension is tight, the car handles great, with almost no body roll. And did I mention the power from the Lamar Walden built 488 big block… it’s impressive. This car will set you back in the seat and put a smile on your face REAL FAST!!
I can’t say enough good about this car. The fact that it has ALL of its original paint tells you everything you need to know about the body. There has never been a rot hole. There may not be another 71 Chevelle that is this original on the outside. It has the right amount of garage dents and patina that make you feel good about driving it to the local car show. It’s no trailer queen – it’s a man’s car, rough and ready. The underside of the Malibu perfect too. This Chevelle is one in a million.
This Chevelle Malibu was built at the Van Nuys assembly plant in California and sold new somewhere around Burbank California. From the original documentation that came with the car, I put together the following ownership history: The original owner (Viola, the grandma) bought the car new. She owned the car from 1971 - Dec. 1989. So the car was California driven for approximately the first 18 years and 60,000 miles.
The second owner – the son - Rob, owned the car from Dec. 1989 - July 2010. He lived in the Seattle Washington area. From what I read, the Malibu was always garaged and stored on blocks 9-10 months of year. It was summer driven only with a total of 200-1500 miles driven each year.
The third owner, the grandson of the original owner, had the car from about July 2010-July 2015 and also lived in Washington State. He drove the car 250-300 miles a month mostly highway miles, selling it with approximately 99,500 original miles as of July of 2015.
From July 2015 – Aug 2025, the Fourth owner – not related to the original family, did the mechanical work to it. He removed original complete drive train, suspension and braking system, then had built and installed:
• Lamar Walden built 670 horse 488 Big Block
• Brodix High Performance Cylinder Heads
• CVS Wraptor Serpentine Accessory System
• Aluminum Radiator with Dual Derail electric cooling fans
• Sid Neal built TH 400 built to take 800 horse power
• Neal chance built torque converter with all billet internals
• Wilwood disk brakes all around
• Tubular upper and lower control arms
• QA1 double adjustment coil over shocks in front
• Viking shocks with double adjustable coil over shocks in rear
• Global West Performance trailing arms out back with anti roll brackets
• Quick Performance Ford 9” rear end with billet center section
• Quick Performance 31 spline axel shafts
• Dakota Digital Dash
• Vintage Air
• High Output battery
• New Toyo 235/45/17 tires front and 275/40/18 tires rear on new Riddler rims
The interior is near perfect. There are just a few small imperfections in the headliner, the dash pad and the soft part of the interior door pulls. Otherwise, it’s in near factory shape. The car smells good. The soft foam pieces around the doors and windows are in really nice shape for being original pieces too. The audio system is a LCD touch screen system. I did turn it on and it connected to my phone. Other than that, I didn’t use it. The speedometer on the dash has not been calibrated, but all the other gauges work fine.
This Chevelle is incredible. Built to run on 93 octane pump gas, you can drive it anywhere. But, feed her some 104 octane and you WILL feel it. I can’t say enough good about this Chevelle. With the quality parts that go into the high dollar build on this car, and the fact that all around it’s as solid as a rock, I feel confidant to say that if you are lucky enough to be the person that gets this car, you will have one of the best 71 Chevelles there is, period. It’s as honest as they get and an all around fantastic build.
This 1971 Chevelle Malibu is offered with a clean GA title in my name.
