What’s special about this listing

Highly Original Pre-L example / one of just 225 units believed to be finished in yellow / Recent service

Available now this extraordinary 1972 De Tomaso Pantera in highly original condition. Built in April of 1972 at the old Vignale factory in Modena, Italy and identified with the Chassis number #3335 and finished in rare and striking yellow paint over Black interior. It is believed that only around 225 out of circa 1200 units were finished in that color for the ’72 model year, making this car a rare opportunity to purchase a rare color on a highly original and unmodified car.

The Ghia/Tjaarda designed body presents very well under the sun and offers a wonderful vintage Italian Super Car appearance. This early ’72 pre-L example features sought after unique featured that disappeared in the second half of the model year, such as chromed light weight bumpers front and rear, hidden gas filler and 4-Bolt 351 Cleveland high compression engine.
Exterior appearance is in great condition, paint is gloss all around with minor typical weathering on the edges. Body is arrow straight and free of corrosion. Glass seems to be original as well as the bumpers, chromes and emblems. Original Campagnolo wheels with period correct BF-Goodrich T/As in the back complete the unmodified factory look.
Interior is original as well and in outstanding condition. Center console sports an original Pantera radio delete plate and instruments. Seats a in great condition and free of rips.

Ford supplied Cleveland 351ci V8 runs amazingly well and it is well tuned up. Cold start is instantaneous, idle is silks smooth. Car flies through the gears and temperature is kept at bay thanks to an upgraded Aluminum Fluidyne radiator and a pair of Italian Spal high volume fans. Car accelerates in a straight line and does not require directional compensation while driving at speed, showing how well it is dialed up.

Recent 2020 service performed in Germany under strict TüV standards include:

- Brake fluid and engine oil change
- Coolant flush
- New Spal fans
- FL steering tie rod replaced
- Front wheel bearings serviced
- Ignition wires
- Engine reseal
- European approved light beams

Car appears in Bill van Ess’ registry and was delivered new in the US through the Lincoln-Mercury dealership network and spent its life in Texas. In 2015 was acquired by a German collector in Düsseldorf where it was serviced to German Autobahn standards and stored in a climate and humidity-controlled environment. Freshly repatriated to America and stored in our museum in South Florida.
