What’s special about this listing

1972 Jeep CJ5 with original 304 V8 and 3speed manual trans. Engine is in very good condition. Brakes are in good condition. Transmission is good but makes some noise occasionally on coasting, like a bearing is worn, so could use a rebuild at some point.
Off road use was very occasional on mostly dirt roads and majority of driving was on paved roads or snow covered roads. Used it to tow a 16ft fibreglass boat to/from a cabin 2 times a year from 1987 to 2001.
Since 2014, after moving to california, I have never taken it off road and used it 1-2 times a year driving on paved roads. I have used the winch to do landscaping projects at my home, very handy to have!

I am selling it because I don't use it very much in the last two years. Other than driving it one to two times a year it sits in a garage. I bought it as a project car and enjoyed working on it over the years. I no longer have the interest to continue to improve it to it's full potential.

The items that are not original are:
- Exhaust manifolds replaced with in-frame steel tube headers. Single exhaust converted to dual exhaust using newer rust resistant pipe. The exhaust pipes extend to the back.
- Leaf springs- replaced originals with superlift 1 inch lift in 2008
- Starter. Replaced autolite starter with high torque starter from Summit racing in 2021.
- Wheels replaced with New black spokes as well as the radial tires in 2008.
- Warn 5K pound electric winch vintage 1980s

Items not shown:
-Full soft top with soft doors. In good shape with clear windows. In storage.
-set of 4 white spoke wheels, have peeling paint and have bias ply tires mounted. Vintage 1983. stored out of the weather.
- set of 4 original wheels with snow tires mounted. Stored with above.

I bought this cj5 used in 1982. At that time it had around 85K miles. I tore down the engine, inspected all components or had them inspected by a machine shop. I had the heads rebuilt due to one burned valve (replaced). I reassembled the engine with new bearings, seals, gaskets, water pump, alternator, starter, hoses and fan belt. A new clutch disc and pressure plate were installed.
I rebuilt the 2 barrel carb at the same time then again in 2022 due to sticking float valve causing overload. I have kept it on a regular service schedule for fluids and filters.

Known issues:
-Body rust on the right rear near the original spare tire mount, Right and left sides below the doors (see photos). some of the sheet metal channel stiffeners under the body need replacement.
- Right front fender moderately crunched by previous owner.
- Engine oil leak at valve covers. Needs to be troubleshot to see if crankcase ventilation is not working properly or if gaskets just need replacing.
- Oil leak at rear of trans or front of transfer case.
- Oil leak from rear diff case
All oil leaks are small and more a nuisance.
- Transmission as noted in the beginning of the listing.
