1972 Opel GT

We bought this single-owner car on BaT and immediately began a complete overhaul of the suspension. Everything was removed, sand blasted and powdered-coated black. Reinstallation of the parts used exclusively red Urethane bushings and new Shocks from Gil at OpelGTSource.

Next we tackled the electrical. We removed and sand blasted the headlight buckets. While the buckets were out we repaired some chassis rot behind the lights. Replaced the battery mount while were in there. The buckets and repairs were painted the original "Chrome Yellow". We installed a New Vintage wiring harness (Thanks Keith!) and replace the bucket switches. Yahoo! - for the first time in twenty years the lights worked and didn't blow a fuse.

Like every GT, ours had some chassis rot in front of the drivers-side rear wheel, we started cutting out the bad until we'd made it all the way to the driver's foot well. No worries. We welded in fresh steel and primed.

Meanwhile, we blasted and metallic silver powder-coated all five wheels (yes - the spare, too). We installed 165R-13 Michelin XAS SL rubber.

Gil sent us seat covers (yes - we paid), carpets, shift stick boot, etc...

All that was left to do was an exterior paint job when I drove it around the track last September. Folks at the track didn't believe how much these "Buicks" stick like glue.
