1976 Mercedes-Benz 450 SL – Classic Beauty in Pristine Condition

1976 Mercedes Benz 450SL in excellent condition with only 90,275 original miles. The car looks spectacular, runs great, and is a wonderful driver. This car was sold new in Cincinnati, OH to the original owner. He kept the car until June of 1985 when he sold it to his insurance agent who loving cared for the car until this year when we purchased it due to his health reasons. The we brought it to Southern California to use for photoshoots, videos, social media and any other events.

This 450SL comes with both the soft-top and auxiliary hardtop. It also comes with the original books, tool kit, data sheet, manuals, and a wealth of original documentation that is pictured in this ad. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Mercedes that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. Mercedes is finished in the absolutely beautiful and highly desirable color combination of Astal Silver Metallic (735) over Light Tan Leather (204) interior with a Black (740) soft-top. Exterior

The Astral Silver exterior is in fantastic condition. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a brilliant gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely; it has that solid Mercedes touch and feels like a vault door closing. The car exhibits very nice body panel fit overall. The chrome and other bright-work look very nice. The original alloy wheels are in great shape with no curb rash. This car was always stored indoor and has no rust issues.

Interior

The Light Tan interior of the 450SL looks absolutely fantastic. The seats look almost brand new and are in excellent condition with no tears, rips, or excessive wear. The seat is not overly worn at all in the typical area on the bolster where the driver gets in and out. All of the gauges faces are crisp and the lenses are clear. The carpet is also in excellent condition with no holes, rips, or stains. The door panels look wonderful and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The Black convertible soft-top is in good condition. The rear windows are not yellowed or foggy. The dash is not faded. The original Blaupunkt radio works, most importantly the dash has never been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. This car has never been smoked in; there is no aroma of cigarettes what so ever and no burn marks. The trunk is very clean and nicely detailed with the correct full size spare tire, matching alloy rim, jack, and tool kit.

Mechanical

This 450SL is in good mechanical condition and it is ready to be enjoyed. The engine idles well and runs great. It is a nice driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. Please note that it runs great, there are no strange noises, and the car performs quite nice overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. It runs cool and does not overheat. The gauge shows that the engine makes great oil pressure. Also, the engine bay is clean, nicely detailed, and correct as one can see from the photos. No timing chain issue (recently serviced).
The previous owner recently had a new correct Mercedes exhaust system installed and a new air conditioning compressor. This Mercedes is smooth and quick with the 4.5 liter V8 engine. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the top down on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1976 450SL is in excellent condition and is a true bargain at this price. The market on for the R107 body style SL Mercedes is very strong right now, particularly for low mileage and original examples like this car. This Mercedes is a great value and will only appreciate over time. Someone could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for the purchase price with minimal effort.
