Toyota sold millions of 2nd gen- pickup trucks word wide, many of which are still running today with over 300,000 miles on them. These trucks were work horses, used for daily transport, company fleets, leisure activities and are capable off-roaders. Most are quite worn out looking now so to find a nice, low mileage, original example is quite rare today.
This one-of-a-kind, 1985 Pickup Xtra Cab 4x4 is a true time capsule. The truck was sold new at Toyota of Pomona, CA on April 19th, 1985 and was kept in Southern California living a dry climate life until 2015 when it came to Washington State. Remember the video game "Off Road" from the 1980s with Ivan Stuart as the champion racer? The painted tri-color Toyota racing stripes were commissioned on this truck when it was new at the Toyota dealership and have held up incredibly well. A full livery of decals were applied to resemble the Ivan Stewart Baja racing trucks of the period in 2017. With only 97,000 original miles, this truck is just barley broken in, there is no rust on the body or chassis, it appears to have never been taken into mud, or off-roaded. The original paint still shines very nicely and is in great condition aside from a few small chips here and there from age. The bed was always protected by a bed liner shell from new and is in excellent condition without any dents or damage. Line-X spay on bedliner was applied in 2017 to ensure its long-term survival. All the glass is still the original Toyota spec, the interior has remained undamaged by the sun, no cracks or tears to the original upholstery or dash are present, the headliner is perfect, as is the original brown rubber floor covering. During refurbishment in 2017 with around 94,000 miles, new 31x10.5 BF Goodrich K02 All Terrain tires were fitted along with new period correct, black/chrome 15-inch 2pc modular wheels. Other work included new Rancho RS shocks and steering dampener along with a full suspension alignment. The 22R 4-cylinder motor was fully serviced and given a fresh tune up. The valves were adjusted, the factory carburetor was rebuilt, and the clutch master cylinder, oil pump, driveline mount, battery, thermostat, radiator, and coolant hoses were replaced. The brakes and clutch have less than 13,000 miles on them and both perform beautifully. The 5-speed transmission shifts with ease into all gears and the transfer case and front locking hubs operate per spec. Inside the factory options include; intermittent wipers, digital clock, air conditioning, sliding rear window, reclining front seats, and a factory optional Toyota accessory Tiltometer/Inclometer unit on top of the dash. The entire AC system was overhauled, blowing cold air and is now R134 freon. The audio system has been updated to a new Kenwood CD-Bluetooth unit, USB/aux cable inputs and 4 new speakers. The Smitty Built-twin-tube roll bar, nerf-bar side steps, rear tube bumper, 4 KC Daylighter roof spot lamps with yellow vinyl covers, Hella H4 headlamps, and Baja front fog lamps, rear tire carrier, racing number wings, and removable window nets, all scream out 80’s Rad. We have sold this truck to the last 4 owners and it has been kept in 3 local private collections since 2017 always being stored in fully climate-controlled environments and has only been driven to events and special outings since its refurbishment. This truck comes with complete documented service history, owner’s manuals, service manual, maintenance log, jack, factory tool roll, two sets of keys, vintage Toyota racing key fob, copy of original CA pink slip, and even the original sales brochure. All mechanical items are in excellent condition, all electrics function as intended, and the truck drives flawlessly. This pickup also retains its original functional CA emissions equipment and catalytic converter.
This Toyota won “Best Truck” at the 2017 Old School Reunion Car Show in Bonney Lake, WA and 1st place, "Raddest Truck" award at Radwood PNW in July 2019. The truck was recently on display at Lemay “America’s Car Museum” for the Shinka – Japanese Auto Exhibit 2025 in Tacoma WA and received tremendous fanfare. This super cool Toyota 4x4 is guaranteed to woo crowds wherever you take it. This is truly a one of a kind modern classic that brings back memories of 1980s warm summer nights, video arcades, truck magazines, dealership promo films, bedroom wall posters, and it represents the best of the original light-weight sport truck era.
