What’s special about this listing

1987 Mazda RX7 Turbo II - 114,383 Miles

I bought this car and drove it personally for about 5 years. I was a younger man and, at the time the insurance cost me more a month than the car loan payment. I did the best I could to care for it. I got a factory manual, did my research, frequent oil changes, and took it in to the "experts" when a service call was due. Plainly, at the time, I was already in over my head financially and every shop fee "minimum" added up until I just had to park it in the hopes of being able to one day "get 'er runnin' again..." I never even attempted to drive this RX7 in the winter, which of course meant I also had to own and maintain a second car for the salty season. Eventually, it was just easier to keep driving the car I was already in and the RX7 wound up in mothballs -maybe a retirement project, I thought. I conned my father to give up some space in his shop and stored it indoors until last winter when I had to give up the space. Since then, it has been tucked up as tight to an outside wall as I could manage with a four-season car cover over it.

The car has been off the road/tabs last renewed 2006. There are two small spats of surface rust on the rear driver's quarter wheel well and near the moon roof, see the images. An occasional mouse has found their way inside and I have cleaned it out as I discovered the visits but it's going to need a good interior airing out and some upholstery attention. One of the lids for the rear storage compartments is slightly damaged, see image.

I used to start it up every now and then, keep things lubricated, etc. but, last spring it decided it didn't want to fire up. The motor turned over but would not start. As it sits now, the fuel pump is out and needs the replacement installed. It also needs a battery. I had an aftermarket stereo installed at one time, but still have the original. The two, little defogger grills on the top of the dash are missing. Other than that, the car is actually pretty solid and all original. Would be a great project car for someone with the right time, tools, and space for it.
