What’s special about this listing

This Mercedes Benz 560 SEL was sold new at Imported Cars of Greenwich Inc of Connecticut. This car is finished in Artic White with light grey lower trim over Grey Leather interior. The original MSRP was $75,550. These long wheel base luxury sedans were “the” car to own for business professionals, doctors, lawyers, and the like. This W126 sedan has been pampered by its owners over the years and is a real time capsule. The 5.6L V8 features Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection, it puts out 270 horsepower and 317 ft lbs of torque and will pull this 4100 lb sedan from zero to 60mph in about 7 seconds which was very respectable in its day. The SEL had very innovative features for the time including dual front airbags, antilock brakes, automatic tensioning front seatbelts, heated front and rear seats, and front knee bolsters under the dash. These big Benzes feel like a bank vault and were over engineered when new, they were built to last forever. During a road test in 1990 Car and Driver commented “In sum, for a car that's in the final years of a distinguished career, the big S-class Mercedes is little short of amazing. That the word "class" is a part of its name seems altogether right”.

The paintwork and chrome trim are in excellent condition throughout with no large scratches or dents. Inside the cabin the Grey leather seating still looks fresh showing very well with just minimal wear to the driver’s outer seat bolster. The polished burl walnut wood trim is also in excellent condition with no cracking or fading. The carpets, headliner, and door panels are also like new. All electrical and mechanical components function as designed including the climate control system. This car will take you down the road in style, its comfort and luxury have no compromises and will reward you for many many years and miles ahead. Since 2022 this car has been owned by a local NW Mercedes enthusiast who commissioned a no expense spared approach to its maintenance and thorough reconditioning. In 2022 the steering system was overhauled, the stereo system was renewed, the original radio was sent to Becker Autosound and was overhauled and a bluetooth module installed, speakers were replaced as needed and a replacement amplifier was installed. In 2023 the fuel distributor was serviced and repaired and the fuel regulator was replaced. Further major work in 2023 included repairing the air conditioning and converting the system to R134 Freon, exhaust system repaired, the pinion seal was replaced in the differential and new flex discs were fitted, the oil pan gasket and level sender were replaced, and transmission cooler lines renewed. In December of 2024 over $11,000 of work was performed; the head was removed and a valve job was performed including a regrind, new valve seats, valve guides, seals, head gaskets, spark plugs, drive belts, and intake manifold gaskets fitted. New front tie rods were installed, front wheel bearings were replaced, new front brake calipers and pads installed, brake system was flushed, new battery installed, and fresh wiper blades and a new trunk seal was fitted. New euro-spec H4 headlamps have been installed as well. Upon getting the car in February of 2025 we have just installed new Vredestein tires so the car is all set for its next caretaker.
