This 1991 Alfa Romeo SZ (Sprint Zagato) is one of approximately 1,036 examples built during a single-year production run and shows just 74k kilometers (~46k miles). Finished in signature Rosso Alfa over tan leather, this SZ is an unmodified, original example aside from a recently installed MagnaFlow muffler. Designed in collaboration between Zagato and Alfa Romeo’s Centro Stile, the SZ was based on the Alfa 75/Milano platform and featured unique composite bodywork, Recaro seats, and the revered Busso 3.0L V6 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle.
Originally sold in Europe, this SZ was imported to the U.S. under the 25-year exemption and is currently located in California. It is offered on a clean Vermont title. Recent maintenance in preparation for sale includes the replacement of the factory muffler with a MagnaFlow stainless unit, giving the car a more pronounced exhaust note while maintaining its road manners.
Features:
3.0L Busso V6 rated at 210 horsepower
5-speed manual gearbox
Red composite body panels over a steel unibody
Tan leather Recaro interior with embossed Alfa logo headrests
OZ Racing 16" wheels with correct directional turbine-style design
Rear-wheel drive with De Dion rear suspension
Power windows and air conditioning
Original Alfa Romeo stereo
The SZ is known for its radical styling, sharp handling, and limited production numbers. Dubbed “Il Mostro” (The Monster) for its unconventional design, the car has developed cult status among collectors of Italian modern classics.
This example presents as an honest and well-kept driver with its original paint and interior showing signs of appropriate use for the mileage. The recent muffler upgrade was done to enhance the driving experience while preserving the originality of the rest of the car. Underside photos and walkaround videos are available in the gallery.
Whether you're a collector of rare Italian sports cars or looking for a unique and drivable piece of Alfa Romeo history, this SZ stands out as a sorted, enthusiast-owned example of a limited-run icon.
