The Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution is a Dakar Rally homologation special, developed to allow Mitsubishi to compete in the competitive T2 class, and it achieved remarkable success in the Dakar Rally, with 12 victories between 1985 and 2007. This makes it the most successful vehicle in the history of the Dakar Rally. The Pajero Evolution's dominance is highlighted by a period of five consecutive wins from 2001 to 2005, including 12 out of 15 possible podium places. The road-legal version, produced from 1997 to 1999, was crucial for homologation, with 2,693 units made.
