What’s special about this listing

993 RS Touring Tribute
This is a 1997 911 Carrera coupe having served as a daily driver, DE car, Club Racer, and back again repurposed as a beautiful and high performing drivers car. A car to drive, a car to show, a car to race, a car to roar through the twisties. A car to be enjoyed as a vintage racecar or as I have, on the town, on the road, on the track and at motorsport events. It is a well sorted GT car with a bit of racing history, and one of the last and one the best of the increasingly rare Luftgehkelt era 911s.
Purchased in 2001 bearing 14k miles, I am the third owner. As a PCA club member I piloted the car in DEs as a novice, quickly becoming a member of the Instructor Corps. In 2008 I installed a bolt in cage, FIA seat, and improved the chassis to compete in G Stock PCA Club Racing. In those days I drove to races on slicks or pulled a small trailer with support and camping equipment in the spirit of the foundational Porsche racing era when it was common to drive competition prepared cars to the racing circuit. When a recession took the sport out of reach the car went into storage. It emerged in 2015 with a refreshed engine and a Rothsport Racing improved gearbox. I raced that year at Putnam Park and Road America. Returned to storage, the RS Euro conversion began with the removal of bumperettes and a repaint. The interior was reworked with RS style interior panels, an RS steering wheel, the pedals and bits trimmed out in Rennline, returning to street duty as a driver in 2022.
The following are some of the key features.
Engine refresh at 78,000 miles
New rings and rod bearings
Cylinder heads performance tuned by RS Systems, Portland, OR
New hydraulic lifters, RS Cams, RS Flywheel, RS Clutch Assembly
Cartronic Motorsport ECU
Custom fabricated 200 cell exhaust cats and piping by Garnet Beput, Redstone Performance, Indianapolis
RSR type mufflers
Rothsport Racing regeared close ratio gearbox with Guard LSD
Bilstein PSS10 resprung favoring street duty
H&R, Tarett Engineering, ERP monoball suspension components
RS style body panels, Euro lamps
RS Steering Wheel, RS style interior panels
Safety Devises cage, Cayman 987S seats
Gemballa Competition 18in wheels.
Service and repairs were performed at Midwest Eurosport prior to this writing to the ensure reliability and drivability including cold AC.
As one might expect this car is a bit stiff and loud around town yet wonderful on the highway. The modern era Cayman seats are comfortable and supportive. The short-shifter with Rothsport Racing regeared transaxle is designed to keep the race improved 3.6 flat-six squarely in its powerband to improve acceleration. It is quick and competent on road or track, a pleasure to drive and a real head turner. The music from this performance enhanced classic air-cooled flat-six on song is a beautiful thing.
An optional cache of original parts salvaged during the builds, packaged and labeled is available to purchase. Price to be negotiated.
