1998 BMW 750iL

Looking for a true BMW enthusiast who appreciates the engineering and elegance of the late '90s 7-Series — especially the rare, V12-powered 750iL. This 1998 BMW 750iL is a long-wheelbase luxury sedan featuring the legendary 5.4L V12 engine (M73) and is increasingly hard to find, particularly in the U.S. Like its spiritual sibling, the BMW 850i, this car represents an era of bold design, power, and innovation. It's an excellent candidate for restoration and will appeal to someone looking for a rewarding project with true collector potential.

I purchased this vehicle in April 2025 from a family in Michigan, with the hope of putting time and resources into restoring it. Unfortunately, I’ve come to realize that I set my aspirations a little too high for what I can take on at the moment. I would love to pass this car on to someone who sees the value and potential in bringing it back to its full glory.

According to the previous owner, the car had spark plugs, several fuel injectors, both front and rear struts, and brakes replaced during their ownership. Since I’ve had it, I’ve put in a new thermostat, radiator, center drive shaft bearing, and have done a catalytic converter delete. I also replaced all four O2 sensors, both Mass Air Flow sensors, the Air Temperature sensor, and the air intake filters on both sides. The car now has brand new tires, new front wheel-hub barring's, and a fresh oil change. It also has a new battery. Heat and A/C appear to work properly, and the heated seats and steering wheel function as they should. The car fax shows that it was owned by one company for a very long time, when the report shows Grand Rapids & Wayland Michigan that is the family from whom I purchased the vehicle from. There are warning lights on the dash — ABS, Brake, and Check Engine. However, many of the original codes have cleared since the recent repairs and sensor replacements. The tachometer works properly, but the speedometer is non-functional. As a result, the car is no longer recording mileage or trip distance. The previous owner noted that the ABS pump was replaced, and that's when the speedometer stopped working. Mechanically, in my opinion, the car runs decently for its age, but I am not a professional mechanic car is being sold as is to a potential buyer. I have driven the car several miles since I've had it during short to moderate trips. The longest I have driven the car is 2 Hrs. away from my home and two hours back and the car dove and handled just fine.

Cosmetically, the car presents with expected wear for a vehicle of this vintage. The paint and body could use attention. The leather seats are in fair condition overall, with only one tear on the left side of the driver seat. The carpet is clean, and the trim is mostly intact. The sunroof opens and closes, but the sliding sunshade is in rough shape. The cup holders are present in both the front and rear, but do not function properly. The overhead reading light cluster and sunroof control panel are fully functional but could be replaced for cosmetic reasons. The glove box handle is broken and will need repair to open. The rear sunshade works well, and both back windows go up and down, but the small corner window shades no longer retract. The rear driver-side window is stuck closed. The radio and CD player work, though I haven’t tested the tape player. All door locks function, and the key fob locks/unlocks both the doors and the trunk. The hood release cable on the passenger side occasionally sticks, so I’ve been opening it by pulling the cable manually after removing the left grille — a fix that will need proper attention.

This car has all the bones of a great restoration — it’s a rare model with an iconic engine, a clean title, and many big-ticket maintenance items already addressed. While it needs time and attention, it’s not beyond reach, and it deserves someone who understands its potential. I’m asking $15,500 or best offer. Located in Rochester Indiana. Clean Title in hand.
