2003 Porsche 996 Turbo
Arctic silver metallic with full black leather
VIN: WP0AB299X3S685452
Regarded by experts and enthusiasts as a seminal Porsche, the 996 may very well go down in history as the 911 that saved the brand from near extinction. Already an aging platform and deeply in need of significant modernization both in performance and manufacturing processes, the 996 would revolutionize the 911 and signal to the world Porsche’s intentions to continue their uncompromising pursuit of engineering excellence. Best of all, the iconic 911 profile and unique design characteristics were deemed critical to the brand heritage and thus were refined and retained in the new version.
Produced from 1998-2004, the all-new water-cooled rear wheel drive, manual 6-speed platform offered the perfect balance of performance and drivability, delivered in a stunning final design. In 2000, Porsche introduced the 996 Turbo which utilized an all-wheel drive system and the powerful 3.6 liter twin-turbocharged intercooled flat six Mezger engine derived from the 1998 Le Mans winning 911 GT1 race car. Output was remarkable at 414hp, delivering 0-60 times of 4.2 seconds, achieved with confidence via VarioCam Plus with further handling prowess enhanced by the addition of stability management. The newly refined Pinky Lai body design was beautifully refined, retaining the visually important brand signature of the 911 including the unique silhouette, distinctive greenhouse, and wide stance, particularly on the Turbo model. Considered critically important to the history of the 911 lineage, 6-speed manual transmission 996 Turbos are quickly becoming sought after by enthusiasts who seek pure, low mile, properly maintained examples of these important performance cars.
This as-new 8,000 mile example was sold new on the 3rd of November, 2002 to Dr. Osterman Cotes of Charleston, West Virginia by Bert Wolfe Automotive Group. The agent for the selling dealer was careful to write "only Mobile 1 full synthetic motor oil" in large print in the warranty book. Already late in the year, Dr. Cotes must have quickly shuttled his new Turbo to the safety of his garage, before winter set in.
According to the CoA, and option codes listed in both the warranty book as well as the underhood sticker, Dr. Cotes optioned this example as follows:
Exterior: Arctic Silver Metallic
Interior: Black Full Leather
342 Heated Front Seats
446 Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
513 Lumbar Support-Right Seat
586 Lumbar Support-Left Seat
692 Remote CD Changer (6 Disc)
982 Supple Leather Front and Rear
AH Black Full Leather
M6A Black Mats - Porsche lettering
X1 Arctic Silver Metallic Top
However, careful as he was, Dr. Costes would not keep his new 996 Turbo for very long, rehoming it via Foreign Cars Italia of Charlottesville, North Carolina with just 744 miles logged in July of 2003 to its next custodian, a Colorado resident.
The Turbo would stay in Colorado for nearly 15 years, accumulating most of its miles there, clearly on fair weather driving days, only. At 2,265 miles it had its first of several fluid and filter changes, the second of which was not until October of 2007. By August of 2017, with just 6,150 miles indicated, a comprehensive "30k mile" service was performed, to include all factory recommended fluids and filter changes, new spark plugs, and a fresh set of Michelin tires.
Not long after, the Porsche would find itself in Southern California for a short stay, before its next custodian in Utah would purchase it in September of 2021, with approximately 7,000 logged since new. In December of 2022 a fluid and filter service was performed with 7,780 miles indicated, and now with its current custodian in Northern California, just 250 miles have been added. On average, this as-new Metzger-engined Porsche has covered just 350 miles a year, while benefiting from regular maintenance.
Today, this 996 Turbo remains all original, and in stunning condition. A couple of minor paint imperfections in the front bumper cover are the only flaws of any significance, whatsoever. The frontal facing areas are well protected by clear bra. The wheels, upholstery, glass, and trim are unmarked. Both the engine bay and under side are detailed "to eat off of" and are completely unmodified.
The sale includes the factory owner's manual pack, jack, and tool roll, a 996 Turbo specific indoor car cover with crest, copies of previous service documentation and a CoA, and a clean Carfax.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an ultra-low mileage, museum quality Porsche 996 Turbo. Offering amazing performance, legendary engineering, iconic design, and uncompromising build quality, this Porsche is ready for the next fortunate owner to experience the power, prestige, and excitement beautifully packaged in a 6-speed manual turbocharged 911 Porsche.
