What’s special about this listing

What a valuable commuter car AND a rare collectible! It was an incredibly reliable, affordable commuter vehicle for lots of highway sales trips, but after switching to a remote job 3 years ago, it’s time to let someone else love this cute little car.
Your only option to get 55-60mph in a hybrid vehicle of any age, this 2006 Honda Insight was built during the final production year for Honda’s first mass-produced hybrid vehicle, and is one of just over 17,000 shipped worldwide. This 3-door hatchback is equipped with a 1.0-liter inline-three and a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as Integrated Motor Assist hybrid technology, which provides assistance to the internal combustion engine from a battery-powered brushless electric motor. This beloved car was purchased new in 2006 in Michigan by the (now) Indiana-based seller, who is its original and only owner. This Insight shows 171k miles and is offered with manuals, years of service records, and a clear Indiana title in the seller’s name.

The Insight weighed just under 1,900 lb. in stock form thanks to its aluminum structure and small size. The rear track was 4.3″ narrower than the front, allowing for tapered bodywork with a drag coefficient of 0.25. This example is finished in Silverstone Metallic paint, and the Carfax report shows no history of accidents.

Additional photos showing the condition of the gray cloth upholstery, dash, and front floor mats are provided in the gallery. The seller describes correct function of the rear trunk release, struts, and lock.

All-digital instrumentation includes charging and fuel economy meters, a tachometer, and an odometer indicating 43k miles. The seller reports that interior electrics are in working order including the air conditioning, lights, heater, blower fan, power windows and locks, turn signals, dash instrumentation, and stock CD stereo.

The 1.0-liter ECA1 inline-three powers the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. Honda’s first-generation Integrated Motor Assist hybrid technology adds a brushless electric motor, which acts as a generator during deceleration and braking to charge a series of NiMH batteries. Power steering is electric as opposed to hydraulic in order to reduce accessory drag. The original battery pack was replaced with the Bumblebee several years ago, and has been working beautifully ever since. An aftermarket system has also been installed to extend battery life even further.
