Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria

1955 marked the first use of the Crown Victoria nameplate by Ford. To introduce its premium <a href="MKT:442" old-href="https://www.classic.com/m/ford/fairlane">Ford Fairlane</a> model range, the Fairlane Crown Victoria was introduced as its flagship model, replacing the hardtop roofline of the Victoria hardtop coupe (an additional nameplate revived for 1955) with a B-pillared roofline distinguished by a wide stainless-steel band &quot;crowning&quot; the roof. While the large B-pillar pre-empted a hardtop roofline, the design allowed for a sleeker appearance. The Crown Victoria Skyliner was a variant of the Crown Victoria with a fixed acrylic glass sunroof forward of the stainless-steel B-pillar. As the Ford model line was redesigned for 1957, the Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria was withdrawn with no replacement.

Ford introduced the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/ford/fairlane">Fairlane</a> for the 1955 model year. The Fairlane was one of Ford&#39;s premium offerings, replacing the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/ford/crestline/">Ford Crestline</a> as the top full-size model. A range of body styles were available, including convertible (Sunliner), clear roof hardtop (Skyliner), and hardtop (Victoria). The most notable first generation offering was the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/ford/fairlane/1st-gen/fairlane-crown-victoria/">Crown Victoria</a>, which was the top trim level available. In addition to the standard 3.7L inline six engine, a few V8 options could also be selected. Production of the first generation Fairlane lasted until 1956, when it was replaced by the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/ford/fairlane/2nd-gen/">Second Generation Ford Fairlane</a>.

The Ford Fairlane is an automobile model that was sold between 1955 and 1970 by Ford in North America. The name is derived from Henry Ford&#39;s estate, Fair Lane, near Dearborn, Michigan. Over time, the name referred to a number of different cars in different classes; the Fairlane was initially a full-sized car, but became a mid-sized car from the 1962 model year.
